Spring 2024, Totality, Trout, and Great Food!

As I type it’s a balmy 36 degrees in Naples, NY. We eagerly await more Spring weather, the Solar Eclipse, and sunshine. Totality is all anyone in the Finger Lakes can talk about right now, well maybe rainbow trout as well. Naples just had the 63rd Trout Derby. The winning trout was just over 7 pounds! Mark would cook us up trout in an iron skillet over a campfire when we took the kids camping. There are so many theories about the food we eat and how and what we should eat. I can’t say I am an expert but I know this-I feel better, I feel energized, and I feel lighter when I eat healthy whole foods. I was a vegetarian for almost 15 years and I still lean toward a vegetarian lifestyle, but I also appreciate folks who work hard to bring nitrate-free, organic, pasture-raised meat to the table. It’s not easy to navigate a world full of processed foods full of additives, and preservatives packaged in a way that harms the human body and the earth. As you move towards Totality and the solar eclipse, take a moment and witness how you feel, how your family feels, and what food you bring to the table. Healthy eating does not have to cost more, in fact, it shouldn’t. There are so many farm markets all over the Finger Lakes-stock up your freezers all summer long to have fruit and veggies for soups, stir fry, and smoothies all year! At the cafe, I am dedicated to bringing you the healthiest, cleanest food that we can. In fact, our superfood smoothie is made all year long with local fruits and vegetables that we process! We have local honey, maple syrup, eggs, yogurt….and we want to extend the hugest shout-out to all the farmers for their dedication to bringing nutrient-dense food to the table. There is one way we can help ourselves, our family, and our world-by our food choices and what we put in our bodies. Enjoy the Eclipse, Spring will be here eventually, and remember we are what we eat. Mark and I wish you all the best always as we move towards our fourth year here in Naples NY, we could not have done this without the many farms, CSAs dedicated to growing and raising food that fuels the body, nourishes the soul, and soothes the mind. All our best, Jodi & Mark Caruso
